Have you been wondering where all the stuff makers are?  Well I am here to tell you they are all over Austin!  Whether you are hanging with the Skill Share folks, going to the Creative Commons Austin meetings or hanging out with those crazy and weird ACTLabbers, there are tons of people doing tons of creative stuff.  So here is a list of just a few of things that are happening around town this summer to keep an eye out on:

ACTLab Office Hours-  Check it, the ACTLabbers will be in their office (CMA 6.124, UT Campus) from 8am-2pm M-F hoping to create new relationships with other stuff makers and “make stuff”

Boot Strap Austin-  These guys meet at Waterloo on Mondays and have a whole slew of reasons for getting together, if you are interested in doing your own start up check these guys out, they might be your ticket to success!

Dorkbot-  Have a hankering for some good ol’ crazy weird science, then Dorkbot is your place to be this summer.  Held all over Austin, Dorkbot is run by world renowned Dork David Nunez, who is always friendly and ready to help others “make stuff”.  So make your way out to a Dorkbot Event if at all possible.

Jelly-  Jelly is held at Cafe’ Caffeine, started by the good looker himself, Dusty Reagan, this event is awesome for those people who work from home and just need to get out and talk to some people.  Held every Friday, there are always some crazy Jelly antics to be scene and experienced, so stop by between 8am and 5pm.

Tech Night-  Held at Monkey Wrench Books, Tech nights is a geeky meeting where people talk about all types of various projects, from mobile illumination projects to 3D printers, geek stuff is covered.

Austin Creative Commons-  The Creative Commons people are going to be around all summer causing copyleft mischief, so keep an eye out for events.

BarCamps- Many events based off of Bar Camp will be held this summer such as Product Camp, Innovation Camp and others which I am forgetting to list.

Refresh Austin/Geek Austin- Keep an eye out for these events, usually consist of geeks meeting up at bars and playing catch up with each other.

Social Media Group-  This is a group of social conscious thinkers and makers here in Austin, check them out, from what I hear they are doing some really cool stuff.  I hope to make it to one of their events as well.

Are you wondering why there isn’t a scene for you here in Austin?  Well create one and let us know about it, maybe we will post it up in our “Where’s the Austin Geek Scene?” page.  I have had many friend put together big and small events alike.  Sometimes it is as simple as having your friends show up every week to draw “stuff” together.  I did this for a year with a group of friend here in Austin, it was awesome, I met a lot of people and learned a thing or two about art!
