Tweet and do something good!

Tweetup Blood Drive

While everyone else is trying to figure out how to leverage Twitter to generate revenue, build communities, and/or catapult themselves into Internet fame, Austin Geeks are tweeting for a social good.

The brainchild of Michelle Greer and David Neff, Austin’s first Tweetup Blood Drive is coming together as a true community event. Sponsored by groups such as the Austin Social Media Club, the 501Tech Club, and Austin Jelly, feel free to blog, retweet and join in the festivities.

Here’s how you can help:

  1. Register or log into the Blood Center of Central Texas’s website.
  2. Choose the location at 4300 North Lamar.
  3. Be sure to pick a time slot from 10 am-4 pm on Thursday, July 3rd.
  4. Show up at the appropriate time. Give a shoutout to David J. Neff.
  5. Give blood. Eat a piece of the sammichometer. Give thanks that you are healthy and can offer health to someone else who needs it.

There may or may not be any true Geek speak at this particular event, but let’s face it, anything with “Tweetup” in the title – is pretty much going to be nerdtastic.

  1. Kristine, thank you so much for taking the time to write this.

Thus far I counted 27 donors in the spots we designated. Not sure if they are all from Twitter or not. I’m hoping we can at least get to 50 by Thursday, although I’m a little concerned.

Joey, I hope y’all had fun yesterday. I was writing some stuff for Mike Chapman. It’s his birthday today, BTW. Give him a shoutout at @mikechapman.

    Anyway, have a great day!

  2. I promise to talk PHP coding and Ruby on Rails to all the geeks who show up. I will throw in the phrase “User Generated Content” if you take a 501 Tech Club business card!
